Central City CSD - School Board Minutes - Regular Meeting - Wednesday, July 22, 2026


Call to Order and Determination of a Quorum - The Central City Board of Directors meeting was called to order at 6:05 PM in the Library of the Central City School District (400 Barber St, Central City). Roll was taken to determine a quorum. Present: Maxwell, Siglin, Stewart and Watkinson. Absent:  Carson.  Motion carried with all ayes unless noted otherwise.      

Adoption of the Agenda - Motion by Watkinson, second by Maxwell to adopt the agenda as presented with removal of the Shared Personnel Agreement with Springville for Industrial Technology Teacher as it was approved previously.

Consent Agenda - Motion by Maxwell, second by Stewart to approve the consent agenda as presented. Items on the consent agenda included:  approval of June 24, 2026 minutes, list of bills, and financial reports.

Informational Reports, Discussions, and Presentations - Superintendent Glenn updated the board on the cyber liability insurance provider, communication regarding 8th grade participation in high school sports, and the new school board website. 

District Appointments  - Motion by Stewart, second by Watkinson to approve the district appointments as follows:  Eric Ries as Multi-cultural/Gender Fair Coordinator and Affirmative Actions; Julie Cook as the Section 504 Liaison; and Katy Koehler as the Homeless Liaison.  

Legal Counsel - Motion by Stewart, second by Maxwell to grant the Superintendent authority to seek advice of appropriate legal counsel when the superintendent/district believes it is warranted and to utilize the following firms: Ahlers, Cooney, P.C. of Des Moines; Iowa Association of School Boards; and School Administrators of Iowa.

Designation of Official Newspaper - Motion by Watkinson, second by Stewart to approve the Linn News as the official publication location for the 2026-2027 school year.

Technology Services Agreement - Motion by Watkinson, second by Maxwell to approve the agreement between Central City and Grant Wood for technology services for the 2026-2027 school year in the amount of $37,500.

Board Policy Review - Motion by Maxwell, second by Watkinson to approve the first reading and waive the second reading of board policies 605.4 and 605.4E1

Student Handbooks - Motion by Watkinson, second by Maxwell to approve the Preschool, Elementary and Middle School/High School handbooks for the 2026-2027 school year as presented.

Workplace Learning Agreement - Motion by Maxwell, second by Stewart to approve the Workplace Learning Agreement with Kirkwood as presented.

Edgenuity Contract - Motion by Stewart, second by Maxwell to approve the Edgenuity Contract in the amount of $7,688.55 as presented for the 26-27 school year.

Open Enrollment Applications - Motion by Maxwell, second by Watkinson to approve the open enrollment applications as presented.

Fundraiser Requests - Motion by Watkinson, second by Stewart to approve the dance team bracelet fundraiser as presented.  Motion by Stewart, second by Maxwell to approve the student council t-shirt fundraiser as presented.

Personnel - Motion by Stewart, second by Watkinson to approve the personnel changes as presented.  Maxwell abstained from the vote.  Personnel changes included:  resignation of Matthew Silver as director of buildings and grounds, hiring of Megan Feldmann as HS head volleyball coach, hiring of Maggie Lueck as HS assistant volleyball coach, hiring of Alycia Maxwell as assistant dance coach, hiring of Donald Hanson as speech director, Holly Allen as .50 assistant musical director, and Trevyn Cunningham as .50 assistant musical director.  

Board Calendar - August 20, 2026-Back to School Night; August 24, 2026-First day of School K-12; August 26, 2026-Board Meeting; September 1, 2026-First day of Preschool

Adjournment - Motion by Watkinson, second by Maxwell to adjourn the meeting at 6:34 PM.
